TOLEDO, OH – Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP is pleased to announce that Katherine S. Decker, associate in the Toledo office, was a recipient of the prestigious 20 Under 40 Leadership Recognition Award. Kate was selected last evening at the 23rd annual event from a record number of 225 candidates.
The 20 Under 40 Leadership Program focuses on individuals under the age of 40 who have distinguished themselves in their careers and/or service in the community. It is intended that the program will assist in motivating young leaders in our area. One must be nominated for the award and an independent panel of judges selects the 20 candidates for recognition.
Kate practices in the litigation and labor and employment practice groups. Kate serves on the firm’s Diversity Committee and is the Chair of its Women’s Leadership Initiative (“WLI”) affinity group in Toledo. She is the former Co-Chair of Leadership Shumaker Toledo, which is the firm’s philanthropic group.
Kate is involved in her community and is active in many organizations. She serves on the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Toledo Advisory Board and was a candidate for its 2018 Man & Woman of the Year campaign. She is involved with the Women’s Initiative of United Way of Greater Toledo and previously served as a Board member and Chair of the Imagination Library Committee. She has served on the Ohio Women’s Bar Association Mentoring Circles Committee, the Ohio Women’s Bar Association Nomination Committee, The Toledo Zoo’s ZOOtoDO and Companies for Kids Committees. Kate is also a recipient of the 2017 Community Service Award for Attorneys 40 & Under by the Ohio State Bar Foundation and was subsequently nominated to become an Ohio State Bar Foundation Fellow. She is a member of the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce Institute for Leadership & Advocacy Class of 2018 and the Leadership Toledo Class of 2014, received the Ohio Association for Justice “Distinguished Service Award” in 2012, was selected for membership in The National Trial Lawyers 40 Under 40, is a member of the Ohio State and Toledo Bar Associations, and the Vanderbilt CORPS Program.
Kate received her J.D. from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and her B.A., magna cum laude, from Vanderbilt University.
