TAMPA, FL – The law firm of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, is pleased to announce that Erin Smith Aebel, partner in the Tampa Office, has joined the American Diabetes Association’s Advocacy Attorney Network. The Advocacy Attorney Network includes attorneys from around the county who contribute their expertise to help reduce discrimination against people who have diabetes.
Erin serves as the Walk Chair of the American Diabetes Association’s Step Out to Stop Diabetes Walk which will take place Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the University of South Florida Tampa Campus. In addition, she also serves as the Vice Chair and Chair-Elect for the American Diabetes Association Tampa Bay Community Leadership Board.
Erin’s daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 4 and is a past Ambassador for the Step Out to Stop Diabetes Walk. Every 20 seconds someone is diagnosed with diabetes and there are 25.8 million Americans living with diabetes and more than a quarter of them don't know they have it. Additionally, one out of three children born in the U.S. today will become diabetic.
Erin is certified as a health law specialist by the Florida Bar. Her clients include physicians, physician group practices, diagnostic imaging centers, pharmacies, clinical laboratories and medical spas. She regularly advises clients on Stark and fraud and abuse, HIPAA and licensure issues arising from joint ventures, acquisitions and changes of ownership. Erin regularly prepares and negotiates physician employment agreements, physician recruitment agreements and medical director agreements. She is frequently involved in licensure and scope of practice issues for her clients, including weight loss clinics, medical spas and other aesthetic medicine ventures. Erin received her J.D., cum laude, from Loyola University and her B.A., magna cum laude, from Loyola University.
