Attorneys Hit the Diamond to Support the Miracle League of Manasota

  • 04.28.2015

SARASOTA, Fla. — Six Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP attorneys spent their Saturday morning at the baseball field, volunteering their time to support the Miracle League of Manasota, a nonprofit that each year allows hundreds of children with disabilities to enjoy the thrill of playing baseball.

Leadership Shumaker, a charitable program involving all the associate attorneys in the firm’s Sarasota office that raises money and organizes volunteer shifts for worthy causes, coordinated the volunteer effort. Saturday’s event represents the first time Shumaker attorneys and staffers have worked with the Miracle League. The firm also sponsored the event.

Shumaker’s team provided food and worked at the breakfast table during the Miracle League’s Saturday morning games, which ran from 7:45 a.m. - noon. The Miracle League’s games take place on the organization’s safe, synthetically surfaced baseball field, built inside Sarasota’s Longwood Park in 2012. The league’s rules ensure that every child bats once and scores a run each inning, all players remain safe on the bases and every team wins.

While Saturday’s outing is the first time Shumaker has supported the Miracle League, Leadership Shumaker volunteers hope to continue sponsoring further events and working with the league and its players during games.
