Shumaker Sponsors Tour de Cure Diabetes Cycling Event

TAMPA, Fla. — Attorneys and staff from the full-service business law firm Shumaker, Loop and Kendrick, LLP will fasten their helmets, don their team jerseys and get on their bikes to ride for the American Diabetes Association this spring.

Shumaker is a sponsor of Tour de Cure, a cycling event on April 10 that starts at Lakewood Ranch Main Street and benefits the American Diabetes Association. A dozen employees will make up the Shumaker team, many of whom are new to cycling. Riders will cycle 20 to 100 miles around the Lakewood Ranch area.

“It’s hard to find a family that hasn’t been affected by diabetes,” said Suzette (“Suzi”) Marteny, Shumaker intellectual property law attorney and the firm’s Tour de Cure team captain. “Shumaker has a long-standing relationship with the American Diabetes Association through walks in Tampa and sponsoring this event last year as well. Our participation with a bigger team this year expands our support of the organization.”

Shumaker is sponsoring a Tour de Cure rest stop for cyclists to refuel with snacks and drinks during the ride. Attorneys and staff from Shumaker will work the rest stop.

This year, the American Diabetes Association is celebrating 25 years of Tour de Cure. Since 1991, the ride has raised over $250 million nationally for diabetes research, education and advocacy through the organization.
