Charlotte Office Co-Sponsors Boy Scouts of America Leadership Dinner

CHARLOTTE, NC – The law firm of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP (Shumaker) was pleased to co-sponsor a gala fund-raising event to benefit the Boy Scouts of America. Known as the “Leadership Dinner,” this is the largest fund-raising event for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Boy Scout Council, and SLK has been a proud sponsor for many years.  At every Leadership Dinner there is an award given to a local person who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community. Though not a requirement, the recipient is often someone who was a scout or who actively supports scouting. This year’s award recipient was two-time-NFL-coach-of-the-year winner, Ron Rivera, head coach of the Carolina Panthers.

The MC host for the evening was former Pro Bowl Panther, Jordan Gross.  He did a wonderful job.  Instead of giving the usual solo speech from the leadership-award winner, Jordan Gross and Ron Rivera sat down for a fun and informal interview for the audience. They shared humorous stories of Ron Rivera’s boyhood scouting days in the Canal Zone of Panama.  During one bit, Jordan amused the audience with not-yet-existing merit badges that Ron Rivera would be especially good at. These include “drinking wine,” “burning marshmallows,” and “capsizing canoes.”

At the end of the ceremony, there was a silent auction to win a signed “CPI Security” gnome signed by Panther All-Pro linebacker, Luke Keuchly. The Keuchly gnome sold for over $5,000. The players stayed after to sign autographs and take pictures.
