TOLEDO, OH – Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP is pleased to announce that Rebecca E. Shope, partner in the Toledo office, received the 2017 Young Alumni Achievement Award presented by Heidelberg University. 

Heidelberg created The Young Alumni Achievement Award in 2001 to recognize an alumnus, who has demonstrated leadership abilities and achieved distinction in his/her respective field of employment and/or service to humankind.  The award is presented to a single recipient at Heidelberg’s annual Alumni Weekend celebration each June. 

Rebecca practices in the labor and employment and litigation practice groups.  In addition to her employment practice, Rebecca represents clients in divorce and child custody matters, and is trained in collaborative divorce law matters.  She is Co-Chair of Shumaker’s Diversity Committee and is a member of the Shumaker Women’s Leadership Initiative. 

Rebecca is a recipient of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 2017 Toledo “Woman of the Year” award which is a national ten-week campaign to raise funds to help find cures for blood cancer where Rebecca and her team raised over $62,000.  She is also a recipient of the 2015 “20 Under 40” Leadership Recognition Award.  The Leadership award focuses on individuals under the age of 40 who have distinguished themselves in their careers and/or service in the community.  Additionally, Rebecca was honored by the Ohio Bar Association for Excellence in Employment Law and was appointed to the Advisory Group for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio by Judge James Carr in 2014 for a three-year term.  She has been selected for inclusion as an Ohio Rising Star by Ohio Super Lawyers.  Rebecca serves on numerous boards and is active in a number of organizations, such as the Toledo Club and EPIC.   

Rebecca received her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Toledo College of Law, and her B.S., summa cum laude, from Heidelberg University.
