A Tribute to Cheri Budzynski

Shumaker mourns the loss of our valued colleague, Cheri A. Budzynski, who passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025 at the age of 52.

Cheri joined Shumaker in 2007, the same year she earned her J.D., magna cum laude, from The University of Toledo College of Law. She had a strong academic foundation—marked by her membership in the Order of the Coif and a Ph.D. and M.A., both in Experimental Psychology from Bowling Green State University, and her B.A., summa cum laude, from Lourdes College.

Cheri focused her legal practice on environmental law, counseling clients on day-to-day compliance matters and administrative issues. Beyond her legal practice, Cheri made lasting contributions to the legal and scientific communities. She was currently serving as a Director of the Toledo Bar Association and a Fellow of the Ohio State Bar Foundation. She was a former President of the Toledo Women's Bar Association, had served on the Ohio State Bar Association's Legal Ethics and Professional Conduct Committee, and former Social Media Vice Chair for the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources Air Quality Committee.

Outside of her professional life, Cheri had a passion for the arts and horseback riding.

Cheri will be deeply missed.

A service to celebrate Cheri's life is expected to take place at a later date.
