Matthew A. Ceriale

Associate

A passionate advocate and practical advisor to clients, Matthew assists the firm’s Litigation and Disputes Service Line and focuses on commercial real estate, intellectual property, international and domestic arbitrations, and post-judgment enforcement matters.

Prior to graduating, Matthew interned in multiple settings, including in-house counsel departments, judge’s chambers, and at Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick’s Tampa office, which together exposed him to the legal and practical considerations that arise everywhere from a concerned board room to entry of final judgment. As an international competitor with Stetson Law in arbitration-based competitions, Matthew has also gained a working knowledge of many international institution’s arbitration rules, including the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), American Arbitration Association (AAA), Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), and London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA). Matthew’s knowledge enables him to quickly comprehend the complex legal issues a client might face and has also allowed him to confidently represent client interests and receive multiple accolades for his skills in advocacy while in law school, including the Victor O. Wehle Award for excellence in trial advocacy, E. Harris Drew Memorial Award for written and oral advocacy, and recognition as best advocate in multiple arbitration-focused competitions.

Matthew has served as a guardian ad litem in Pinellas County, and previously studied Criminology at the University of Central Florida showing him that while advocacy is important inside the courtroom, empathy and understanding are just as necessary outside of it. His varied background and multitude of experiences have given him a healthy perspective on what litigation means for clients, and how the best solutions for every client are not always found in the courtroom.

After hours, Matthew can be found practicing French, kayaking through Florida’s beautiful waterways, visiting his extended family in Baltimore, Maryland, or his wife’s family in France.
