Scott C. Crowley

Partner

Scott’s experience serving as general counsel for two hospital systems and then co-founding a health care company allows him to relate to health care providers seeking competent, cost-effective advice. Having focused exclusively on health law for almost two decades, Scott is known for delivering solid leadership in regulatory compliance while helping busy providers execute their growth strategies in a wide array of transactions.

During his time as general counsel, Scott was responsible for legal oversight of a Corporate Integrity Agreement (CIA). Successfully complying with the CIA deepened Scott’s knowledge of Stark and Anti-kickback regulations, allowing him to better serve clients facing regulatory headwinds. Adept at counseling health care leaders and providers, Scott provides regulatory and compliance counseling, assistance with government investigations or audits, as well as advice on fraud and abuse issues. Scott has successfully led a hospital affiliation and completed M&A transactions for a variety of health care practices. In addition to physician practice acquisitions, Scott has experience with collaborations, including joint ventures, exclusive provider contracts, and co-management agreements. Scott’s practice also includes assisting with tax-exempt bond financing, managed care contracting, health care private equity transactions, physician recruitment, the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act, medical staff issues, and clinical research compliance.

Joining Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP after taking a sabbatical to complete the research for a Ph.D. in philosophy, Scott looks forward to receiving his doctorate in 2020. In addition to philosophy and a love for anything written by Ralph Waldo Emerson, Scott enjoys live theatre, music concerts, camping, and working out. Scott is not a particularly good person to ask about television since it gets turned on mainly for college football and movies with the family.
