During her college summer vacation, Judy worked in the legal department for Standard Oil Company. This peaked her interest in law to the extent that, after graduating college, she attended paralegal school, as well as law school at night for two years. Her education, along with 42 years as a paralegal in the Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP Litigation department, make Judy a tremendous asset. As a senior paralegal, she has extensive experience in trial preparation for general civil litigation, including:
- Drafting motions
- Drafting discovery documents
- Document and exhibit organization
- Deposition digesting
- Subpoenas
- Medical records summaries
- Cite checking
- Settlement documents
- Background and witness investigations
- Reviewing and preparing spreadsheets for damage calculations
- Attendance at trial
She also assists in training new associates.
Additionally, Judy has experience in workers’ compensation matters, including medical records requests, drafting correspondence to physicians and/or other medical care providers to arrange background information and materials for independent medical evaluations and filing on-line continuances.
When away from work, Judy is involved in many outreach and mission activities through her church and, as a musician, she accompanies the church choir on occasion and plays the clarinet in church as well as a small orchestra. Judy also plays in a hand bell choir, is a tennis player and devotes time to her elderly mother and her son and his family, including two granddaughters.
