Columbus Seminar - How Will Legalized Marijuana Affect My Business?

Unsure of how legalized marijuana will affect your business? Join Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP as we discuss potential changes to Ohio businesses within the areas of:

  • Agriculture – Kevin P. Braig, Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP; Thomas Menke, Menke Consulting, Inc.
Kevin P. Braig with Thomas Menke of Menke Consulting, Inc., will discuss the agronomy of marijuana cultivation in Ohio, the inputs that cultivators likely will need to successfully produce crops, and the legal risks to vendors who sell and supply inputs to marijuana cultivators.
  • Labor & Employment – Mechelle Zarou, Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP
Mechelle Zarou will discuss the impact of legalized marijuana on private Ohio employers, specifically considering  how marijuana’s changed status in Ohio could affect drug testing policies, disability and attendance concerns, disciplinary decisions, and safety compliance.
  • Regulatory Compliance – David F. Axelrod, Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP
David Axelrod will discuss the enforcement priorities that have been issued by the US Department of Justice to provide guidance to state officials and businesses working in jurisdictions that have legalized marijuana in some form. He will explain why it is not only businesses working directly in developing a national marijuana marketplace, but also those interacting with any marijuana-related businesses that need to be attentive to the Department of Justice policy in this arena.

Douglas A. Berman is Of Counsel at Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick and a professor at the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. Professor Berman will discuss what marijuana reform developments should be expected to emerge from other states and in Congress up to and through the Nov. 2016 election and soon thereafter. He will also discuss the impact that the Nov. 2015 vote in Ohio likely will have on these national developments.
