SARASOTA, FL – The law firm of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP is pleased to announce that Cheryl L. Gordon, partner in the Sarasota office, has been named Chair of the Board of Directors of the Education Foundation of Sarasota County. The Education Foundation was founded as an independent, not-for-profit organization working in partnership with Sarasota County schools and the community awarding more than $1 million each year to initiatives that help elevate public schools to the top of Florida’s education system.
Cheryl has represented and advised numerous individuals and companies in the formation, acquisition and/or sale of business ventures, the planning and implementation of qualified plans and all aspects of the day to day operations of their business. Cheryl also works with high net worth individuals and business owners to organize their income tax, business succession and estate planning affairs in order to maximize wealth preservation and minimize tax on transfers to family members, charities and other recipients. This is accomplished through the use of the latest sophisticated estate planning strategies, including sophisticated wills and trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts, family limited partnerships, family charitable foundations, and other similar techniques.
Cheryl, who is also a Certified Public Accountant, received her LL.M. Taxation and her J.D., with honors, from the University of Florida College of Law, and her accounting degree, with high honors, from the University of Florida.
