CHARLOTTE, NC – The law firm of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, is pleased to announce that Charlotte partners Karen Stiles and Beth Stanfield have been named to positions with the NCADA. Voting took place at the NCADA Annual Meeting this June where Karen was elected to a one-year term as Chair of the Medical Malpractice Group, and Beth was elected to serve a three-year term on the Board of Directors.

The North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys is a professional organization of nearly 900 attorneys and paralegals who devote a majority of their time representing the interests of businesses and individuals in civil litigation. NCADA is a voice for defense counsel through publications, dealings with the judiciary, public positions on matters of interest, and participation in a variety of events connected with the bench, the bar and the business community.

Karen’s practice focuses primarily on defending medical malpractice cases and catastrophic personal injury litigation. She has specialized in medical malpractice throughout the last decade, and has tried cases on behalf of physicians, nurses and hospitals throughout North Carolina. Karen has successfully defended healthcare providers from multiple medical specialties and is licensed to practice law in the state of North Carolina.

Beth’s practice is devoted to the defense of healthcare providers in medical malpractice cases and before hospital and regulatory authorities. She is a seasoned trial lawyer handling high exposure cases to jury verdict. Beth also provides regulatory counsel on healthcare matters, including compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act.
