COLUMBUS, OH – Shumaker Advisors Senior Vice President Derrick R. Clay has been elected to the Athletic Club of Columbus Board of Directors, adding to his long list of community involvement. Derrick also serves as a member of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Chair of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus Foundation Board, President of the City of Columbus Recreation and Parks Commission, and is a founding member of the Columbus CEO Collective.

I give back because the community has given so much to my family and me,” said Derrick. “I am honored to be elected to the Athletic Club of Columbus Board of Directors. This prestigious club has been essential to the Central Ohio business community for over a century and I am humbled to help lead the club into the next era of leadership.”

The Athletic Club of Columbus was founded in 1912 by a group of business professionals interested in promoting both social and athletic endeavors and has been an integral part of the Columbus business and political communities.

As Shumaker Advisors Senior Vice President, Derrick’s leadership skills and strong public policy background make him an effective and efficient advocate when assisting clients with government and regulatory affairs. Drawing from his combined experience working with legislative and regulatory matters, Derrick guides his clients through the complexities of the social, economic, and political landscape of government.

Prior to joining Shumaker Advisors, Derrick spent nearly two decades with the government relations and lobbying firm, New Visions Group, where he started as Vice President and Partner in 2004, and moved into the position of CEO when he acquired the firm in 2014.  

Derrick’s previous experience also includes serving as Midwest Political Director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Ohio State Director for the Gore-Lieberman 2000 Presidential Campaign, serving as a member of the historic Florida Recount Committee, and Executive Director of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus, among other leadership roles.
