Sara S. Jawad

Associate

A member of the Litigation and Disputes Service Line, Sara works with clients to balance their needs with the available remedies necessary to arrive at realist and sustainable goals. She focuses her practice on advising board members and professional managers of condominium and homeowners’ associations in collection and foreclosure cases, covenant enforcement, and bankruptcy and creditors’ rights.

Prior to joining Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, Sara worked for Legal Services of North Florida providing legal services to low income individuals focused on landlord/tenant disputes and evictions, public housing issues, mortgage foreclosures, Chapter 13 bankruptcies, Social Security Disability appeals, and nursing home eviction. Following Hurricane Michael, Sara assisted in drafting pleadings that were instrumental in preventing wrongful (mostly self-help) evictions and in having utilities turned back on for families living in several apartment complexes throughout the Florida Panhandle.

In addition, Sara’s litigation experience includes handling construction defect cases, real estate fraud, defamation, first-party property insurance claims, and professional negligence. When handling such matters, Sara takes into account that most clients do not have prior experience with the litigation process and she makes it a priority to communicate thoroughly and to set realistic expectations, while accounting for clients’ desired results.

A true client advocate, Sara has also performed pro bono work at St. Michael’s Legal Center, a nonprofit legal-aid organization in Riverview, where she researched, drafted, and provided representation to low income clients.

Sara is a Tampa native who enjoys trying new recipes in her own kitchen and exploring local restaurants throughout the Tampa Bay Area. She also enjoys traveling (and trying new food along the way); she studied abroad in Italy during undergrad and in Oxford during law school.
