TOLEDO, OH — Shumaker Partner Eric L. Simpson has joined the Board of Directors of the Kidney Foundation of Northwest Ohio (KFNWO), the area's leading advocacy and support system for individuals living with chronic kidney disease.
Founded more than 60 years ago by a group of physicians and community leaders, KFNWO is an independent, nonprofit health agency whose mission is to ease the financial and emotional burden of those impacted by the disease through financial assistance; patient and caregiver education, awareness, and support; and increased awareness of chronic kidney disease.
In his role, Eric will work with his fellow board members to carry out KNFWO's mission and help enact the organization's strategic plan, which includes increased mobile screening programs, support groups, and efforts to promote organ donation, among other initiatives.

Eric is a seasoned real estate attorney with broad experience assisting owners, investors, and developers through the commercial real estate property lifecycle. With a practical, business-focused mindset, he helps guide deals to the finish line, allowing clients to focus on running their businesses.
"KFNWO's mission is deeply personal to me. In 2022, my family's life changed unexpectedly when our twin boys were diagnosed with a rare childhood medical condition, which resulted in both developing chronic kidney disease," said Eric. "While they are both doing better currently, my wife and I experienced firsthand the emotional, financial, and practical challenges that families facing chronic kidney disease often endure. We were incredibly fortunate to have access to excellent health care, the unwavering support of our families, and employers who helped ease many of the burdens we faced. Unfortunately, many individuals and families navigating chronic kidney disease do not have those same resources or support systems, and that is why I am proud to join the Board of Directors of the KFNWO, an organization that makes a meaningful difference in the lives of so many throughout our community. I look forward to helping strengthen KFNWO's programs and services so that even more individuals and families living with chronic kidney disease experience a little less of the burden that accompanies this journey."
