TOLEDO, OH — Shumaker Partner J. Douglas Miller has been re-elected as Chairman of the Northwestern Water and Sewer District (the District) Board of Trustees, marking his fourth consecutive term as Chairman and his 10th year of service to the District.
Formed in 1994 and chartered under section 6119 of the Ohio Revised Code, the Northwestern Water and Sewer District works to establish a uniform water distribution and wastewater collection system, serving over 20,000 customers throughout Northwest Ohio. In his role as Chairman, Doug continues to provide strategic leadership to the District, furthering its mission to be the premier water and wastewater provider in the region in his role as Chairman. His long history of involvement with the District began with serving as a member of Board of Directors 2015, followed by service as Vice Chairman from 2018 to 2021 and Secretary from 2022 to 2023.

An intellectual property (IP) attorney, Doug regularly advises clients on a variety of patent-related matters in the mechanical and electrical-mechanical arts, particularly those involving automotive technologies, consumer products, and medical devices. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of Ohio and a registered patent attorney licensed in Ohio and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Doug prides himself on his community involvement and is committed to giving back through a variety of organizations. Along with his work with the District, Doug's history of service includes serving as Vice President of the Bulldog Foundation’s Board of Directors, a member of the Wood County Economic Development Commission Board of Directors, and a member of the Imagination Station Science Center Board of Directors. He has a passion for fostering innovation and often collaborates with Bowling Green State University’s business incubator, The Hatch, to mentor aspiring entrepreneurs and startups.
