COLUMBUS, OH – The law firm of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP was proud to participate in the 29th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Breakfast on January 20, 2014 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. This event is the largest of its kind in the United States honoring Dr. King.
The breakfast celebrated Dr. King’s legacy through inspirational music, prayer and reflection. Among the 3500 people in attendance was Governor of Ohio John Kasich, City of Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman and Columbus City Council President Andrew Ginther. This year’s keynote speaker, Yvette McGee Brown, was the first African-American woman to be elected to the Franklin County Common Pleas Court and to serve as a Justice on the Supreme Court of Ohio. In her speech, she challenged each individual to make a difference and become involved with the community. In the words of Martin Luther King, Jr., “An individual has not started living fully until they can rise above the narrow confines of individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of humanity.”
