Shumaker Unveils Blog Focused on Immigration Law

TAMPA, Fla.Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP a full-service business law firm with offices in Florida, Ohio and North Carolina, is launching “The Immigration Bulletin” blog to provide insight into the constantly evolving immigration laws, regulations and policies. The blog, which can be viewed at www.TheImmigrationBulletin.com   will also serve as a resource and an educational tool to assist Shumaker’s clients with their immigration needs.

“Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick knows that if you want to be successful, you must be able to adapt,” said Maria del Carmen Ramos, a partner in the Tampa, Fla. office. “And to adapt, you must have access to the latest information. More and more, we see our clients facing uncertainty, which translates to increased costs, due to immigration laws and policies in a state of flux. We want to ensure our clients’ continued success, and we hope this blog contributes to that success.”

Launched yesterday [September 30, 2014], the blog will have four authors: Serena Lipski in Toledo, Ohio; Maria del Carmen Ramos in Tampa, Florida; Jennifer Roeper in Tampa, Florida; and Mechelle Zarou in Toledo, Ohio.

Lipski practices business immigration law and employment and labor law in the firm’s Toledo, Ohio office. She previously served as a judicial intern for Chief Judge James G. Carr, United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.

Ramos devotes a substantial portion of her practice to counseling clients on immigration and employment issues. She has extensive experience helping employers obtain H-1B and E visas on behalf of foreign workers employed in specialty occupations. She also has experience helping U.S. and foreign-based companies with global operations obtain L-1 visas on behalf of their foreign-based employees. Ms. Ramos also routinely conducts audits for clients to ensure they comply with the requirements for verifying their employees’ eligibility to work in the U.S.

Roeper is board certified in immigration and nationality law by the Florida Bar. She handles all aspects of immigration law, including employment and family based temporary visa processing, applications for permanent residence and naturalization. She assists corporate clients in maintaining compliance with U.S. immigration laws as well as employment eligibility for employees.  Ms. Roeper also assists clients requiring waivers of inadmissibility and those facing deportation from the U.S.

Zarou assists employers with obtaining temporary and permanent visas for skilled foreign workers.  She has extensive experience in obtaining L-1, H-1B, O-1, TN and E visas on behalf of foreign workers, as well as permanent residency based on employment.  Ms. Zarou also has experience assisting the firm's healthcare clients with their specialized immigration needs, including obtaining J-1 visa waivers, visa screen certifications, and H-1B cap exemptions. She advises employers on compliance with immigration regulations and I-9 employment eligibility verification.
