Shumaker, Loop and Kendrick Raises More Than $14,000 for Local Nonprofits

  • 12.23.2014

TAMPA, Fla. – The Tampa office of Shumaker, Loop and Kendrick, LLP raised over $14,000 this year through its Leadership Shumaker program, which will be donated to area nonprofit organizations in 2015. This year, the law firm contributed to 15 nonprofits, with a 2014 year-to-date giving total of over $12,600.

Most recently, attorneys representing Leadership Shumaker, the philanthropic arm of the Tampa law firm, delivered children’s toys they purchased to A Brighter Community, Inc. on Thursday, Dec.18. Attorneys and staff members shopped for 10 children this year, spending up to $200 for each child to purchase items from individual wish lists.

“Leadership Shumaker is a program that promotes community and philanthropic involvement within the firm,” said attorney Tim Garding, a co-chair of Leadership Shumaker with attorney. “All of the funds raised by Leadership Shumaker are comprised solely of individual cash donations from Shumaker’s staff and attorneys. The program offers creative ways for members of the firm to contribute to local charitable organizations and has the added benefit of fostering a sense of community among our staff and attorneys.”

Shumaker donated to the following nonprofits in 2014 using funds raised by the Leadership Shumaker program: Wounded Warrior Project, The Humane Society of Tampa Bay, American Diabetes Association, Tampa Bay Beautification STEPS Program, The Greyhound Foundation's Second Chance at Life Prison Partnership, Quantum Leap Farms, The Autism Society, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, The Alzheimer's Association - Florida Gulf Coast Chapter and Providing Advocacy and Recognizing Capabilities (PARC), an organization dedicated to providing services in Pinellas County for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

“Our motto is ‘Involved’ at Shumaker,” said Leadership Shumaker co-chair R. Quincy Bird. “This applies not only to our clients, but as importantly, to our community. This money was raised through small, individual donations and was delivered to charities Shumaker staff and attorneys are very passionate about.”

In addition to donations made using funds raised by the firms’ Leadership Shumaker program, the law firm also elected to make direct donations of $1,000 each to the following nonprofits for the holiday season: The Home Association, Metropolitan Ministries, Tampa Crossroads, Community Action Stops Abuse (CASA) and The Spring of Tampa Bay.

Fundraising activities, which range from in-office bake sales and luncheons to off-site cocktail parties, are organized by the firm’s associate attorneys and staff and take place throughout the calendar year.
