Shumaker Launches Blog About Condo & HOA Laws

TAMPA, Fla. — The Community Associations practice of Shumaker, Loop and Kendrick, LLP, a full-service business law firm, is launching a new blog about condominium and homeowner association laws.

The first blog posts for The Condo and HOA Law Bulletin have added to the Shumaker website and new posts will be added weekly. Each lawyer within the department will contribute to the blog by authoring posts.

Jonathan Ellis, Shumaker’s Community Associations Department Administrator, says the blog will serve a variety individuals involved with community associations, including officers and directors, members, managers and vendors.

“We decided to start the blog because there are so many different community associations within the state of Florida – so many individuals who sit on boards, live in associations and serve as property managers,” Ellis said. “The blog will give us a way to communicate new ideas, novel approaches to existing problems, updates in the law, as well as general issues of interest to the industry.”

Topics to be addressed on the blog include pitfalls and potential liabilities, new developments, construction, board issues and updates in the law. Upcoming blogs will discuss issues such as selective enforcement, service animals, rollover of surplus funds and advantages of live foreclosure sales.

“The blog will provide a valuable reference for people who are involved in the community association industry,” Ellis said. “It might be of particular use to board members themselves who don’t have access to counsel. Our posts will provide a quick reference to steer them in the right direction.”

Since many communities face the same issues, Shumaker’s Condo and HOA Law Bulletin will be a key resource for homeowner association and condominium board members throughout the state on a day-to-day basis.
