Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick Hires Experienced Solar Industry Attorney

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Full-service business law firm Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP has hired solar industry and real estate attorney Chris Delp to build on the firm’s established solar track record, which began with the rise of U.S. solar panel manufacturing.

In his new role, Delp will operate out of the Charlotte, N.C. and Tampa, Fla. offices of Shumaker. Drawing from his experience in renewable energy construction projects, Delp will serve the legal needs of solar developers and contractors in North Carolina and Florida, across the U.S. and Latin America.

Delp previously served as in-house corporate counsel at a leading renewable energy construction and manufacturing company where he participated in numerous U.S. and Latin American wind and solar projects. At Shumaker, he represents clients involved in solar photovoltaic construction projects from the earliest stages of conception to commercial operation.

“My relationship with Shumaker began when I entered the solar sector,” said Delp. “When I saw the quality of Shumaker’s work and level of sophistication on a variety of matters, it made sense to join the firm and offer legal services custom tailored to investors, lenders, developers, contractors and manufacturers within the solar industry.”

Shumaker recently launched its Solar Law Update blog to provide insights on developments in solar law and trends in the solar market. Delp, among other attorneys, founded the blog and will be the main authors of blog posts along with the Solar Industry Practice Group at Shumaker.

Solar law is a hot topic this election season, and North Carolina has the second largest solar market in the U.S. The blog will speak to solar issues in North Carolina, but it will also include issues relevant to the solar markets in Florida and Ohio, the two other states where Shumaker has offices.

“We represent clients all over the country who are working on solar projects throughout the U.S. and Latin America,” Delp said. “This blog will inform our clients and the general public about the solar industry.”

Delp co-authored the first posts on the Solar Law Update blog, which cover the basics of what it takes to get solar power from a power plant to your house, what makes a good location for a solar farm, best practices for selecting a residential solar installer and more. Additional blog posts will be added frequently.

Attorneys with Shumaker’s Solar Industry Practice Group partner with stakeholders in solar photovoltaic construction projects and provide experienced representation in all aspects of each project from initial concept to completion.

Delp earned his law degree from Stetson University College of Law, where he served as the marketing editor of the Stetson Law Review.
