Shumaker Welcomes Eight Attorneys in Charleston and Charlotte

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Eight attorneys have joined the Charleston and Charlotte offices of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, a full-service regional business law firm.

This marks the firm’s first entry into South Carolina. H. Michael Bowers, Lynn F. Chandler, J. Bennett Crites III, G.P. Diminich and Laura Evans are joining Shumaker as partners while Mary B. Ramsay will serve as an associate and Kristin Balding Gutting will support as of counsel in its new Charleston office.

“Shumaker’s Charleston-based attorneys have over 100 collective years practicing in South Carolina and the southeast region,” said Evans, managing partner in the firm’s Charleston office. “South Carolina’s economy and, particularly the greater Charleston area’s economy, are growing at a rapid pace. We anticipate this growth to continue with no end or limit in sight. Our office is well suited to provide comprehensive legal services to clients across the state. In addition, our attorneys are deeply tied to the greater Charleston community, utilizing their skills to donate extensive time to local causes. We are excited to open Shumaker’s newest office and to bring the talent of the entire Shumaker firm to Charleston and the state.”

Stephanie C. Daniel, partner, will operate in the already-established Charlotte office.

“For years, Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick has enjoyed an established presence in the Carolinas and beyond,” said Steven A. Meckler, managing partner in the firm’s Charlotte office and a firm-wide management committee member. “These well-respected attorneys are highly regarded in the business and legal community in Charleston, and we are thrilled to be adding this fine group to the firm. They will bolster Shumaker’s presence in South Carolina and its offering of legal services to the business community in the areas of health care law, mergers and acquisitions, tax planning, Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), high income and executive estate and business succession planning, litigation and more.”

The entrance into the South Carolina market is part of an overall expansion effort for the law firm, increasing its footprint in the region and providing more expertise and practice areas for its clients. Recently, Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick also expanded into the Michigan market through a combination with the Miller IP Group, PLC.

“When I first learned that the Charleston and Charlotte attorneys were interested in joining us, it made perfect sense,” said Scott M. Stevenson, a partner in Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick’s Charlotte office. “We are a growing, dynamic firm, and Charleston is a thriving, vibrant city. We want to be in hot growth markets, and Charleston topped our wish list. The real attraction for us, however, was the caliber of the talented, likable lawyers joining us.”
