TOLEDO, OH – The law firm of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP is pleased to announce that Bennett H. Speyer, partner in the Toledo, Ohio office, was a presenter at the 2018 Collegiate Sports Summit that was held on April 16-17, 2018 in Santa Monica, California.  Bennett participated as a panelist to discuss the impact of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) on collegiate athletics.  The Summit is held annually and provides athletic directors valuable information to recognize and tackle the challenges in their respective athletic programs. 

Bennett is a tax and sports attorney and Chair’s the firm’s Sports Industry Group.  In addition to serving closely held businesses and professionals in connection with corporate and compensation planning, Bennett’s practice includes representation of elite level college coaches, athletic directors and other executives in the sports industry, athletic conferences, as well as colleges and universities.  Before practicing law, Bennett was a tax consultant in the Tax Department of Ernst & Whinney (n/k/a Ernst & Young LLP) in its Cleveland, Ohio office. 

Bennett is a member of the Sports Lawyers Association, the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, the American Bar Association, Tax Section, Employee Benefits Committee, and the Toledo Bar Association.

Bennett received his J.D. from The University of Toledo College of Law and his B.A. from Miami University.
