Katherine S. Decker Nominated for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Woman of the Year

TOLEDO, OH – The law firm of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP is pleased to announce that Katherine S. Decker, Toledo office Associate, was nominated by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) as a candidate for its 2018 Man and Woman of the Year (MWOY) campaign. 

The MWOY campaign is a ten-week fundraising competition among a select group of individuals in the community to raise funds to support blood cancer research and help blood cancer patients and their families.  Candidates run in honor of the LLS Boy & Girl of the Year, who are local blood cancer patient survivors and sources of inspiration.  The 2018 campaign kicked off on March 27th.  The man and woman candidates who raise the most funds during the campaign will be named Toledo's Man & Woman of the Year at the Grand Finale on June 8th at the Renaissance Hotel.

Kate practices in the litigation and labor and employment practice groups.  She is the former Co-Chair of Leadership Shumaker Toledo, which is the firm’s philanthropic group, serves on the firm’s Diversity Committee, and is the Chair of its Women’s Leadership Initiative (“WLI”) affinity group in Toledo. 

Kate is dedicated to her community and is active in many organizations.  In 2017, Kate became involved with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society when she participated as a team member on candidate Rebecca Shope’s LLS Man & Woman of the Year campaign.  After the campaign, Kate remained involved with LLS and serves on its Toledo Advisory Board.  Kate is involved with the Women’s Initiative of United Way of Greater Toledo and previously served as a Board member and Chair of the Imagination Library Committee from 2014 to 2016.  She has served on the Ohio Women’s Bar Association Mentoring Circles Committee, the Ohio Women’s Bar Association Nomination Committee, The Toledo Zoo’s ZOOtoDO and Companies for Kids Committees.

In 2017, Kate was a recipient of the Community Service Award for Attorneys 40 & Under by the Ohio State Bar Foundation and was subsequently nominated to become an Ohio State Bar Foundation Fellow.  She is a member of the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce Institute for Leadership & Advocacy Class of 2018 and the Leadership Toledo Class of 2014, received the Ohio Association for Justice “Distinguished Service Award” in 2012, was selected for membership in The National Trial Lawyers 40 Under 40, is a member of the Ohio State and Toledo Bar Associations, and the Vanderbilt CORPS Program.

Kate received her J.D. from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and her B.A., magna cum laude, from Vanderbilt University.
