TOLEDO, OH – Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP is pleased to announce that Rebecca E. Shope, partner in the Toledo office, delivered the keynote address at Heidelberg University’s Opening Convocation on Thursday, August 23, 2018 to celebrate the start of the 2018-2019 academic year.
Rebecca shared an inspiring message about her educational journey at Heidelberg. In her message, she reminded students to achieve their fullest potential, not lose sight of personal values, and cultivate a culture of inclusiveness on campus. She also spoke about how her mentors at Heidelberg helped shape her professional career and she encouraged students to find mentors to help on their educational path.
Rebecca is a 2004 graduate of Heidelberg University and a recipient of their 2017 Young Alumni Achievement Award which recognizes an alumnus who has demonstrated leadership abilities and achieved distinction in his/her respective field of employment and/or service to humankind. She is past president of Heidelberg’s Fellows Advisory Council.
Rebecca practices in the labor and employment and litigation practice groups. In addition to her employment practice, Rebecca represents clients in divorce and child custody matters. She is Co-Chair of Shumaker’s Diversity Committee and is a member of the Shumaker Women’s Leadership Initiative.
Rebecca is very active in the community and serves on numerous boards. She has been honored with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 2017 Toledo "Woman of the Year" award and the 2015 "20 Under 40" Leadership Recognition Award. Additionally, Rebecca was honored by the Ohio Bar Association for Excellence in Employment Law and was appointed to the Advisory Group for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio by Judge James Carr in 2014 for a three-year term.
