TAMPA, FL – the law firm of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP is pleased to announce it has added another seasoned lawyer to its existing Real Estate team. Megan Proulx Dempsey has joined our Tampa office as a partner in the Real Estate practice group. Megan brings nearly two decades of experience to Shumaker, including serving as corporate counsel to TECO Energy.

Megan is a highly effective transactional attorney, community advocate, and corporate leader who uses practical experience and seasoned judgment to achieve results. A property law practitioner for more than 19 years, Megan’s practice encompasses all areas of commercial transactions, title and use solutions, and land development and entitlement. She is experienced in representing companies in condemnation as both the condemning authority and an impacted owner. Megan is skilled at identifying and acquiring project sites for various uses. Often called upon to balance the best interest of a variety of stakeholders, Megan frequently negotiates with state agencies and regulators. She has transacted on the acquisition, sale, financing, and development of shopping centers, office buildings, condominiums, and master planned communities. She has performed complex leasing transactions, including long-term ground leases for landlords and tenants.

Prior to joining Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, Megan was senior corporate counsel at TECO Energy, where she worked in multiple practice areas serving virtually all areas and levels at TECO. Most recently, focusing on utility scale solar, locating and constructing linear facilities, and legal and regulatory challenges facing the utility industry. During her 11 years at TECO Megan’s practice focus was primarily real estate driven. Her accomplishments include transacting on thousands of acres of land and resolving almost every variety of land dispute. However, she also delivered results in the areas of transportation, including road, rail and water, environmental, and human resources.

When Megan isn’t focused on her busy practice, she spends time with her family, which includes efforts to stay on trend for her teenagers. Megan is also an advocate for the health and safety of children and families in Tampa Bay and she is a long-term gubernatorial appointee and the current chair of the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County.
