Shumaker Advisors Snags Longtime Congressional Chief of Staff to Bolster Government Relations Team

TOLEDO, OH –Shumaker Advisors, LLC announced today the expansion of its team with the arrival of Derek N. Harley who brings with him more than two decades of experience in the United States Congress. Derek will serve as Shumaker Advisors’ Senior Vice President of Federal Affairs where he will spearhead Shumaker’s efforts in Washington, D.C., and bridge the gap between clients and the federal government.

“Derek is a perfect fit for Advisors at the right time,” said Andrew Herf, President of Shumaker Advisors, Ohio. “As we act on our long-term growth plan, Derek is a key part of the strategy. He is smart, energetic, and a well-respected player on Capitol Hill.”

“We’re thrilled that Derek is joining Shumaker Advisors,” said Chairman of Shumaker Advisors, Mark Wagoner. “Derek brings more than 20 years of experience on Capitol Hill and creates a new ability for Shumaker Advisors to problem solve for our clients. Derek will be a vital part of our team going forward.”

Derek’s addition to the Shumaker team adds another important element to their already successful and growing government relations practice. Derek will be an on-the-ground resource in Washington for Shumaker clients, helping represent them in the U.S. Congress and with federal agencies in an increasingly complex regulatory and legislative environment.

“I’m excited and honored to be joining such a well-respected and talented group of people,” said Derek. “My highest priorities in helping lead two Capitol Hill offices were providing first-in-class service and achieving the right policy results for the constituents we represented. I’m looking forward to bringing those values, and my years of experience, to the Advisors team as we work alongside our clients to navigate the policy and political landscape in Washington and achieve their policy goals.”

Most recently, Derek was the chief of staff for Ohio Congressman Brad Wenstrup, a member of the House Ways and Means Committee. In addition, he served for more than six years as the chief of staff to another Ways and Means member, California Congressman Wally Herger.
