CHARLESTON, SC – Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP is pleased to announce that Senior Attorney Raymond “Ray” Burroughs has joined their Taxation and Corporate Law practice groups, bringing with him a diverse array of experience.

Ray is a tax and commercial transactions attorney who focuses on developing, solving, and implementing efficient strategies for nonprofit organizations, corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, and high-net-worth individuals in all aspects of federal, state, and local taxation. His practice includes business formations and governance, reorganizations, mergers, acquisitions, and exit strategies. Ray also advises clients on systems and products in the areas of health and information technology solutions, data exchanges, privacy, cybersecurity, and the compliance issues related thereto.

Ray routinely represents high-net-worth individuals, corporations, and privately-held businesses on a variety of sensitive and complex estate and business planning matters, including taxation (federal, state, and local), mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, estate planning and probate administration, probate and estate litigation, tax controversy, and real estate planning.

Ray holds a B.A. in History, a B.S. in International Business, and an M.S. in Accountancy, each from the College of Charleston. He earned a J.D. from The University of South Carolina School of Law and an LL.M. from New York University School of Law (Taxation). Ray is also a Certified Fraud Examiner.

In addition to the private practice of law, Ray has held legal, accounting, and transactional positions in leading international investment funds, has engaged in business management and competitive contract awards for companies within the national security realm, and has assisted various specialized cyber risk management companies in strategic growth initiatives.
