Washington, D.C. –Shumaker Advisors announced today that U.S. Representative Bob Latta’s former chief of staff, Ryan Walker, is joining the firm. A dedicated and driven government affairs strategist with extensive experience in public policy and politics, Ryan has spent more than a decade working on the Hill.
“Ryan’s experience and knowledge will be a tremendous asset to Shumaker Advisors and its clients in his new position as our Senior Vice President of Federal Affairs,” said Shumaker Advisors Ohio Chairman Mark Wagoner. “Ryan is a dynamic, servant-minded leader with a proven track record of getting results, and we could not be happier that he is joining our team.”

From 2008 to 2016 Ryan served as Congressman Latta’s chief of staff. During that time, he also served as a senior advisor to Latta in his role as a senior member of the Energy and Commerce Committee - leading a team of 14 people from four different geographically diverse offices in Washington, D.C. and throughout Ohio’s Fifth Congressional District.
Following his time with Congressman Latta, Ryan joined BP representing Fortune’s Global 500 seventh largest company before the U.S. House, U.S. Senate, the White House, and executive branch agencies. Serving as BP’s Senior Director of U.S. Government Affairs, Ryan oversaw a portfolio of businesses that included the Castrol brand of motor oil and lubricants, three northern-tier refineries, two petrochemical plants, four offshore oil production facilities, and extensive operations in the Permian Basin.
A former adjunct professor in the Graduate School of Political Management at George Washington University (GWU) in Washington, D.C., Ryan earned a Master of Public Administration at GWU and a degree in criminal justice at Kent State University in Ohio.
