Michael R. McKinley to head up the new team

Sarasota, FL – Shumaker is expanding the services it provides in Sarasota. The firm announced today that it will now be offering Public Policy and Government Affairs services, while expanding its Real Estate and Development teams. The additions were announced along with the hiring of attorney Michael R. McKinley.

“Mike brings an impressive level of experience practicing school law and representing educational institutions for more than 35 years,” said Shumaker Partner Dan DeLeo. “His extensive experience representing and advising multiple school boards in the state of Florida for the last eight years, including Charlotte County, Glades, and Hardee Counties, brings immense value to our public law clients.”

With more than four decades of experience, McKinley will oversee Public Policy and Government Affairs for the Shumaker Sarasota office. The first assistant county attorney hired in Charlotte County, he has extensive experience dealing with local governments and working with Florida public school districts.

“I am excited to be joining such a talented team at Shumaker,” McKinley said. “I believe my background practicing in business law, zoning, commercial loans, planning and land use, administrative law, and education law will serve me and our clients exceptionally well.”

McKinley will also assist with the firm’s real estate work relating to community associations, owners, and developers.

A member of the Charlotte County Bar Association, McKinley is also involved with the Florida Bar Real Property in Probate section and the Florida School Board Attorneys Association.
