Tampa, FL – Shumaker Advisors Florida, LLC is proud to announce Lesley “Les” Miller, Jr., Principal and former Hillsborough County Commissioner, was celebrated today, February 15th, as Hillsborough County’s flagship park and recreation center was renamed in his honor.
The Lesley "Les" Miller, Jr. All People's Community Park and Life Center was unveiled at 6105 E. Sligh Ave., Tampa. The 45,000-square-foot recreation complex serves as the center of the County’s adaptive sports program, which provides year-round sports and recreation programs for children and adults with disabilities.
“This is one of the greatest honors of my life,” said Les. “This park and the services it provides are going to be significant for this community. It has the county’s largest adaptive playground along with wheelchair football and basketball programs. I am humbled it bears my name.”
During his nearly five decades of public service, Les served as a member of the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners from 2010 to 2020. He served as the board’s chair three times. He also served as a member of the Florida Senate from 2000 to 2006 and in the Florida House of Representatives in 1992. He is the first person in the State of Florida’s history to serve as Democratic Leader in both the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate. Prior to his time in Tallahassee, Les served on the Tampa City Council. He joined Shumaker Advisors Florida as Principal in March 2021.
