TOLEDO, OH – In practice for more than two decades, Scot Hinshaw is the newest attorney in Shumaker’s Toledo, OH office, where he is a partner in the Labor, Employment and Benefits Service Line. Scot brings with him years of experience practicing employment and labor law at large firms in the District of Columbia, Chicago, IL, and Detroit, MI.

“We are excited to have Scot join Shumaker’s employment team. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will benefit the clients that we serve,” shared Partner and Labor, Employment and Benefits Regional Service Line Leader Rebecca Shope.

Scot focuses on employment and labor law and commercial litigation. He prides himself on his responsiveness to clients and his ability to evaluate issues with an eye towards the client’s larger business goals and risks. Scot concentrates his practice on counseling clients on compliance under state and federal employment statutes, advising clients regarding best practices in reductions in force, terminations, and workplace investigations, and advising both businesses and individuals concerning non-compete, non-solicit, non-disclosure, and trade secret issues, including participation in litigation to enforce and defend contractual provisions, and both statutory and common law fiduciary duties, just to name a few.

Scot’s experience includes serving as lead counsel in jury trials, injunction hearings, and commercial arbitrations. He has litigated and appeared pro hac vice in numerous cases throughout the United States. Scot has also argued before the District of Columbia and Sixth Circuit federal courts of appeals. He has served as head negotiator on behalf of employers across the table from the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW). Scot has also successfully defended against numerous union grievances before labor arbitrators.

“It’s a thrill to be joining such an accomplished and well-respected group of attorneys at Shumaker,” said Scot. “I’m looking forward to the many opportunities this brings me and my clients.”
