SARASOTA, FL – Shumaker is pleased to announce that Partner John Burgess has been named Executive Chair for the 2022 Sarasota Walk to End Alzheimer’s, where he has volunteered his time to the Sarasota Walk to End Alzheimer’s for three years.

“We couldn't ask for a more passionate and results-driven individual to lead this cause. John has been instrumental in the growth of the Sarasota Walk to End Alzheimer's to this point and his willingness to put our cause at the forefront is unmatched,” said Miranda Zoloty, Vice President of Development for the Alzheimer’s Association. “His vision for growth aligns perfectly with ours and we're thrilled to be working with him in this capacity.”

Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's is the world's largest fundraiser for Alzheimer's care, support, and research. This inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to join the fight against the disease.

"Alzheimer’s touches so many families. The Walk to End Alzheimer's plays a big part in funding research and providing hope for those who have been touched by Alzheimer’s and related dementias,” said John. "The Walk is already a great event that will be even bigger and better this year, but we need the support of the business community in Sarasota and Manatee Counties for it to make the impact that it should have. That’s where our Executive Leadership Committee comes into the picture, and it’s exciting to have the chance to lead the Committee.”

John is a partner in Shumaker’s Labor, Employment and Benefits Service Line, where he brings a depth of experience to his law practice. Focused on employee benefits, executive compensation and employee stock ownership plans, he is a certified public accountant with an extensive tax and accounting background, which includes experience as an auditor with a large accounting firm. Clients draw on John’s ability to take a 360 degree view of their benefit plans and how they affect other areas of their business. In addition to working with the Alzheimer’s Association, John is the President-elect of the Florida West Coast Employee Benefits Council and a member of the Board of Directors of the Florida Center for Employee Ownership.
