TAMPA, FL — As the Tampa Bay and Sarasota regions experience a boom in population and development, Shumaker is selecting two partners to lead its growing Public Sector Practice.
Partner Andy Mayts will serve as Public Sector Chair, and Partner Patrick Duggan will become Co-Chair. Andy works in Shumaker’s Tampa office, and Patrick works in Shumaker’s Sarasota office.
“As more people choose to call the Tampa Bay area home, we are seeing a definite increase in proposals for new developments and projects,” said Andy. “This is a dynamic time for our region, and we’re excited to help facilitate smart growth, ensuring our communities are great places to live for generations to come.”
“Sarasota is in the midst of a transformation, with its potential shining brightly. Our team is excited to help local government officials and clients create impactful change with innovative approaches and practical solutions,” said Patrick. “We collaborate to navigate the balance of politics and law — whether helping a client pass a levy or create a public-private partnership. Above all, we understand the financial constraints of governmental entities.”
Shumaker attorneys have decades of experience working with local government leaders and special districts as general counsel, bond counsel, and special counsel. Areas of focus include bond finance, tax levy, public-private partnership, statutory authority concerns, special district formation, economic development, contracting and competitive bidding, conflicts of interest, labor and employment, education, and environmental matters.
“It will take unique thinking and creativity to help governmental and public entities meet the growing needs of our communities,” said Shumaker Management Committee Vice Chair Jennifer Compton. “Andy and Patrick are top-performers and ready to meet this demand. With their leadership, we are confident that Shumaker’s Public Sector Practice will have continued growth and success.”
