Bart brings the perspective of a leading policy maker and thought leader in collegiate athletics to Shumaker and his clients. Bart is an attorney focused on collegiate athletics law, advising NCAA Division I athletics directors and departments on complex legal and policy matters.
Bart works on issues such as:
- Name, Image and Likeness (NIL)
- Advising Athletics Departments in NCAA matters
- Institutional policy surrounding implementation of the House Settlement
- Complex Investigations in the Higher Educational Settings
- Athletics Director and Coaching Contracts and Separations
For almost a decade, he served as General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer for the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) Athletics Directors Association (formerly LEAD1). Based in Washington, D.C. for much of his tenure, Bart worked closely with former Congressman, Rhodes Scholar, Olympian, and NBA player, Tom McMillen.
Bart frequently speaks on college athletics law and policy and teaches sports law as an Adjunct Law Professor.
Outside of work, Bart enjoys performing stand-up comedy and catching Bruce Springsteen concerts.
