Bart H. Lambergman

Senior Counsel

Bart brings the perspective of a leading policy maker and thought leader in collegiate athletics to Shumaker and his clients. Bart is an attorney focused on collegiate athletics law, advising NCAA Division I athletics directors and departments on complex legal and policy matters.

He currently serves as General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer for the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) Athletics Directors Association (formerly LEAD1). In this role, Bart works on issues such as:

  • Name, Image and Likeness (NIL)
  • Advising athletics departments in NCAA matters
  • Institutional policies surrounding implementation of the House v. NCAA settlement
  • Complex investigations in higher educational settings
  • Athletics director and coaching contracts and separations

Based in Washington, D.C. for much of his tenure, Bart worked closely with former Congressman Tom McMillen.

Committed to supporting future leaders in sports law, Bart frequently speaks on college athletics law and policy and teaches sports law as an Adjunct Professor at his law school alma mater, The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.

Outside of work, Bart enjoys performing stand-up comedy and catching Bruce Springsteen concerts.
