Marisa represents employers and management in labor and employment matters, bringing deep experience across employment advisory and litigation law and a dedication to helping employers proactively handle workplace concerns before they become disputes.
Her practice includes advising clients on a range of labor and employment issues, including harassment, discrimination, and retaliation; conducting investigations; and assisting in the development and preparation of employment agreements, severance agreements, employment policies, and employee handbooks. Experienced in dispute resolution, Marisa also routinely guides employers through the pre-litigation charge process before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Florida Commission on Human Relations (FCHR), from initial charge response through resolution.
Marisa began her legal practice in Boston, where she worked at an Am Law 100 law firm and focused on commercial litigation and employment matters. Prior to joining Shumaker, she practiced employment law at another Sarasota-area law firm. She earned her J.D. from Suffolk University Law School and a B.A. from Mercer University, where she also played Division 1 women's lacrosse.
Outside of the office, Marisa enjoys reading, running, and spending time with her miniature dachshund, Ginny.
