Michael E. Shammas

Associate

A seasoned litigator, Michael has represented clients in a broad range of matters—from commercial and contract disputes to cases involving employment, family, and immigration law. He draws upon his diverse experience to strategically advocate for his clients' interests in and out of the courtroom.

Prior to joining Shumaker, Michael practiced as a litigator for several years in different cities, including a tenure at a New York law firm. After clerking for the Honorable D. Brock Hornby on the United States District Court for the District of Maine and for the Honorable Ronald L. Gilman on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, Michael held teaching and research positions at Tulane Law School and at the NYU School of Law before deciding to move back to his home state of North Carolina.

Michael received his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School, and his B.A., summa cum laude, from Duke University. He is admitted to practice in New York, Maine, and North Carolina.

In his personal time, Michael enjoys reading, hiking in western North Carolina, binging Netflix shows, and exploring Charlotte.
