A seasoned litigation paralegal, Moira leverages over 35 years of legal support and paralegal experience to assist clients in a wide array of litigation matters. Her experience includes pre-suit civil litigation for plaintiff and defense teams in the areas of labor and employment, subrogation and recovery, automobile accident, insurance disputes, medical malpractice, personal injury, premises liability, and product liability.
Prior to joining Shumaker, Moira skillfully managed a caseload in the subrogation and recovery department of an insurance defense firm with a concentration on high-value and complex property claims. In this role, she negotiated directly with attorneys and other third-party representatives, recovering over $1 million or more annually for clients.
A native of Maryland, Moira grew up overseas and, upon returning to the U.S., began her career working as a records clerk before training as a legal secretary. She holds an Associate's of Applied Science in Paralegal Studies from Kelsey-Jenny College in San Diego. She also completed two years of nursing pre-requisites at Hillsborough Community College, which aided in the many years she worked on medical malpractice and wrongful death cases.
Moira lives in Tampa and enjoys being a devoted aunt who spoils her nine nieces and nephews, practicing calligraphy and brush lettering, and perusing consignment and thrift stores.
