Lauren N. Diaz

Director of Government Affairs

An effective, diligent, and personable leader, Lauren is the Director of Government Affairs for Shumaker Advisors. She is focused on assisting Shumaker Advisors’ clients with strategic planning and maintaining productive relationships with key policy makers that will support and enhance clients’ goals. Among other things, Lauren helps to monitor and analyze proposed legislation, trends, and emerging issues to determine potential impacts. A trustworthy advocate, she also works to maintain effective communication and collaboration with industry groups and organizations with complementary objectives in order to support coalitions to drive policy objectives.

Prior to joining Shumaker Advisors, Lauren worked diligently in political fundraising on behalf of Members of the Ohio House of Representatives, the former House Speakers, and the Caucus as a whole. She also assisted in the campaign and reelection efforts of Ohio Chief Justice Sharon Kennedy. In doing so, Lauren developed strong relationships with public and private sector leaders at the state and local levels of government, as well as with an array of different business and industry leaders supportive of their efforts from across Ohio. Lauren also spent the past year working for the Cincinnati-based law firm Langdon Law, LLC in campaign finance law, where she developed her knowledge of state laws regarding lobbying, political action campaign (PAC) formation, ballot initiatives, and other related topics.

Lauren earned her J.D. from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, where she served as Online Editor of Ohio State’s Business Law Journal and previously had two articles published in the Journal’s 2022 online issue. She was involved in several student organizations, including the Program on Law and Leadership, Peer Advisor Program, Latino/a Law Students Association, Immigration Law Society, Black Law Student Association, and the Sports and Entertainment Law Society.

During Lauren’s first year of law school, she worked as a summer associate at Vory’s, primarily in their corporate and labor and employment groups. During her second year, she externed with Chief Justice Sharon Kennedy, and she now works with the Ohio Supreme Court’s Sentencing Commission assisting in legal research of Ohio statutes and case law regarding sentencing issues.

Seen as a leader while earning her undergraduate degree at Auburn University, Lauren was captain of the university’s equestrian team, where she won three national championships, two SEC conference championships, and was nominated for both the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year Award and SEC McWhorter Award, the highest award possible for student athletes recognizing those who excel in academics, athletics, community service, and leadership. Lauren served as the liaison between the team and the university’s then-Athletic Director. She also worked with the coaching staff and local city officials to coordinate community service events and collaborate for the promotion of competitions and the team in general.

Outside the office, Lauren enjoys traveling, watching sports, and spending time with friends and family, especially her sisters.
