Richard T. Sommers

Associate

A member of the Litigation and Disputes Services Line, Richard focuses on advising board members and professional managers of condominium and homeowners’ associations. A dedicated attorney, he counsels clients through their most challenging times with effective solutions and attentive communication.

Prior to joining Shumaker, Richard worked for a short time at another national law firm representing large commercial and governmental entities in high-stakes federal litigation. He also briefly worked for the Solicitor General’s office, working on federal litigation and appellate briefs for the Eleventh Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.

Richard earned his J.D. from Florida State University College of Law. During law school, he clerked for Justice C. Alan Lawson of the Florida Supreme Court. During his time at the Court, he was able to help improve the accessibility of internship programs for law students with financial needs, with the help and guidance of his mentor Justice Lawson.

Outside of work, Richard loves to travel, play golf with his friends, and most of all spend time with his family. His passion for helping others in community associations comes from witnessing those challenges that his family has faced first hand.
