Katie is an experienced litigator, having handled a wide variety of civil matters in both state and federal courts. She values building professional relationships with her clients, colleagues, and others in the community to expand her knowledge and leverage opportunities to assist her clients in accomplishing their goals.
Growing up, Katie often watched her father, also an attorney, passionately practice his closing arguments for trials and knew she wanted to pursue a career advocating for clients with the same passion and effectiveness. Katie embraces challenge and pursues each matter thoroughly, efficiently, and always with her clients’ best interests in mind. When not working on client matters, she is actively involved in the state and local bar associations and community organizations. She is also proud to have been appointed by Chief Justice John W. Kittredge to serve on the South Carolina Access to Justice Commission.
Katie made the most of her time at the Charleston School of Law, serving as a research assistant for two professors, earning CALI awards in numerous classes, engaging in pro bono work, and serving as the Student Bar Association President. She spoke on behalf of the student body at graduation, and she was awarded the Civility Award, “presented to a Charleston School of Law student who best exemplifies the high moral character and professionalism charged to all whom attend the Charleston School of Law.” Prior to joining Shumaker, Katie worked for a local Charleston firm, handling a variety of civil matters from inception through trial. She has represented both plaintiffs and defendants.
In her free time, Katie enjoys walks through the beautiful city and beaches of Charleston, trying all the new restaurants, traveling, and spending time with her dogs, Gilly and Ivey. As a Philadelphia native, she will never pass up the opportunity to root for the Eagles and shout, “Go Birds!”
