Rachael is a member of the Benefits Service Line, where her diverse experience, paired with her accessible, yet creative approach to engaging with legal issues, makes her a valuable asset to clients and colleagues alike. She provides practical counsel on executive compensation, health and welfare, multiemployer retirement, and other employee benefits plans.
Prior to joining Shumaker, Rachael began her career at a large, international law firm in Washington, D.C. before transitioning to a mid-size firm focused specifically on employee benefits law.
Rachael also leverages her legal acumen and attentive nature in her work for the community. She is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Akron School of Law, helping to mold the next generation of legal minds, and serves as an Associate Board Member for the Kids Book Bank, a nonprofit that distributes free books to children in the Greater Cleveland area.
She is a graduate of Cornell Law School, where she earned both her J.D. and LL.M. in International and Comparative Law. After law school, Rachael clerked for U.S. District Court Judges in the District of New Jersey and the Northern District of Ohio.
In her spare time, Rachael enjoys spending time with her two cats and practicing yoga. She also owns a small art business—you can find her on Etsy!
