CHARLOTTE, NC — Shumaker has added Leighton E. Carlock as an Associate, strengthening the firm's bankruptcy practice with her broad legal background and tenacious, client-focused approach to representing clients in a wide range of bankruptcy matters.
Leighton's experience spans civil litigation, corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, and intellectual property, giving her a well-rounded perspective in helping clients navigate complex legal and business challenges. Her diverse background enables her to approach bankruptcy matters with practical insight, strategic thinking, and a strong commitment to advancing client objectives.
With particular experience in international law, Leighton also offers valuable perspective for clients involved in cross-border litigation and global business matters. She is a member of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, was a Princeton Asia Fellow, studied abroad at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, and speaks Mandarin.

Leighton earned her J.D. and International Master of Business Administration from the University of South Carolina. She also holds bachelor's degrees in Chinese Language and Comparative Literature from the University of Georgia.
