TAMPA, FL. — Sandra L. "Sandy" Murman, Executive Vice President and Principal Local Practice at Shumaker Advisors, has been honored with the 2026 Hillsborough County Medical Association Dr. Frederick A. Reddy Memorial Award, a distinguished recognition presented to a member of the Tampa Bay community who exemplifies a commitment to giving back, community service, social justice, and mentorship of young people.
The award was established in 2006 in memory of Dr. Frederick A. Reddy, a respected Tampa physician and community leader whose dedication to medicine, service, and the youth of Tampa Bay left a lasting legacy. Sandy's selection recognizes her decades of public service and her ongoing work to strengthen the community, support children and families, advance health-related initiatives, and champion programs that improve lives throughout the region.
Sandy has long been known for her leadership in public service, including her tenure in the Florida House of Representatives and as a Hillsborough County Commissioner. Throughout her career, she has helped advance efforts focused on families, youth, health, education, economic opportunity, and nonprofit service across Tampa Bay. During her legislative service, she held leadership roles on the Health and Human Services Appropriations Committee and the Health Policy Council, where she helped spearhead reforms to nursing homes, supported hospital funding, and advanced initiatives affecting children, seniors, and working families.
As Hillsborough County Commissioner, Sandy focused on community health and safety issues, including ending homelessness, fighting the opioid crisis, addressing mental health and substance use challenges through a jail diversion program, tackling human trafficking through awareness and education, and strengthening critical children's services through the creation of a Blue Ribbon Committee for Child Safety. She also works with children in foster care through Children's Home Network, where she serves as a board member, and is a Guardian ad Litem.
