Shumaker Adds Three New Attorneys, Strengthening Intellectual Property Capabilities Across Biotechnology, Aerospace, and Electrical Engineering

TAMPA, FL— Shumaker's Intellectual Property Service Line is growing with the addition of three new attorneys—Michele L. Lawson, Andrew P. Stevens, and Enisha Smith—further enhancing the firm's depth in biotechnology, life sciences, aerospace engineering, and electrical and computer technology.

Michele joins the firm as senior counsel. A seasoned patent attorney, she brings extensive experience across a wide range of technologies, with particular depth in the life sciences. Her practice focuses on patent preparation and prosecution, opinion work, and strategic client counseling. Michele has provided sophisticated intellectual property (IP) services to major research institutions and organizations, guiding complex innovations through the patent process with precision and insight. She concentrates her work in biotechnology and has successfully prosecuted hundreds of patents to issuance, adding a valuable layer of scientific and legal acumen to the Shumaker team.

Andrew, an associate, brings a strong background in patent prosecution and IP litigation. His diverse legal experience spans a global law firm, an IP boutique, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)'s Kennedy Space Center Office of the General Counsel. Andrew has prepared and prosecuted patent applications in a variety of technical disciplines—including aerospace, mechanical, biomedical, software, and electrical—and has represented clients in United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and federal court proceedings. He holds a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering and certificates in Engineering Project Management and Leadership. His hands-on technical experience includes roles in design and fluids engineering at Kennedy Space Center and research in advanced manufacturing.

Enisha also joins the firm as an associate. She is a patent attorney, with a passion for innovation and a strong foundation in electrical engineering. Her practice focuses on helping clients—ranging from startups to established businesses and individual inventors—develop and protect their IP across a range of technologies. Enisha has successfully prosecuted numerous patents in fields such as telecommunications, semiconductors, power systems, consumer electronics, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning.
