TAMPA, FL – Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, is pleased to announce major additions to the Intellectual Property Practice in the Tampa, Florida office. The firm welcomes Thomas E. Toner and Jason A. Smith.
Tom, a Registered Patent Attorney, joins the firm as a partner and focuses his practice on patent prosecution, copyright, trademark, trade secret and related technology litigation. His experience in patent prosecution includes medical devices, technology components, photolithography, electronics, MEMS, communications systems, computer hardware and software, Internet business methods, municipal and localized wastewater treatment and construction with a focus in therapies and pharmaceuticals for the treatment of cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.
Jason, also a Registered Patent Attorney, is an associate and concentrates his practice in the areas of patent application preparation and prosecution as well as opinion work and client counseling. Jason’s primary focus is on biotechnology, the chemical arts, and materials science.
Tom and Jason join Associate Jeff Fabian to significantly expand the firm’s patent prosecution and counseling capabilities in the Tampa office. Tom, Jason, and Jeff work with clients to secure patent protection is the U.S. and abroad and have a wide range of expertise in a various technology areas. With degrees in biology, mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering, they assist clients in many aspects of patent law.
Tom received his J.D. from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law and his B.S. in Biology from the University of Central Florida.
Jason received his J.D. from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, his B.S. in Biology, summa cum laude, from Pfeiffer University, his M.S. in Biological Sciences, Molecular Genetics, from the University of South Carolina, and is a Ph.D. candidate in Biological Sciences, Molecular Genetics, from the University of South Carolina.
