TAMPA, FL – The Nonprofit Leadership Center announced 23 outstanding professionals of color for the new Advancing Racial Equity on Nonprofit Boards Fellowships, including Shumaker Associate Junior Ambeau. Junior will take part in six interactive virtual training sessions to learn how to serve as an effective nonprofit board member and will receive mentorship between sessions by other professionals of color who are experienced board members.

The Nonprofit Leadership Center launched the first-ever Advancing Racial Equity on Nonprofit Boards Fellowship as a result of nonprofits lacking representation from any professionals of color on their boards, while equipping local nonprofit organizations to be genuinely ready to welcome these new members onto their boards, and to address this disparity and foster more inclusive and equitable communities.

“I am thrilled to have been selected to participate in these training sessions,” said Junior. “I see this as a great opportunity to soak as much knowledge about nonprofits as possible and figure out how I can help nonprofits in the future, should I get an opportunity to serve on a board.”

Junior is a member of the firm’s Litigation practice group, focused primarily in the area of community associations. In his role, Junior serves as general counsel for condos and homeowners associations (HOAs). Before joining Shumaker, Junior was a complex commercial litigator, representing corporations and business lenders in various commercial and contract disputes.
