Shumaker Continues to Grow Carolina Offices with the Addition of Three New Attorneys

CHARLOTTE, NC; GREENVILLE, SC – Associates, Iona L. Chapman, Clark C. Cooper, and Devin J. Cummins have joined Shumaker’s Carolina offices, bringing the 2021 firm-wide new attorney total to 25. Located in the Charlotte, N.C. office, Iona is a member of the Wealth Strategies Service Line and Clark is a member of the Litigation and Disputes Service Line. Devin is located in the Greenville, S.C. office, where he is a member of the Intellectual Property and Technology Service Line.

A client-centered attorney, Iona focuses her practice on estate planning, tax planning, and estate and trust administration. Clients benefit from Iona’s conscientious and dedicated work ethic. Her motivation to become a lawyer spawned from her desire to help people, and she experiences a great deal of satisfaction from being able to provide clients with the legal knowledge and tools they need to accomplish their goals. Prior to joining Shumaker, Iona worked as a solicitor in St. Andrews, Scotland, specializing in wills, trusts, and estates.

Clark is a determined and persistent litigator focused on defending clients in medical malpractice cases, medical device litigation, and catastrophic personal injury litigation. Clients turn to him for his conscientious and meticulous work ethic when handling the matters at hand. Before joining Shumaker, Clark worked at a law firm where he handled workers’ compensation defense and he was a law clerk at the North Carolina Court of Appeals for Judge Mark Davis

Devin is a registered patent attorney with five years of experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications. He provides client counseling, stressing a value-driven approach in developing client intellectual property (IP) portfolios. Devin’s practice focuses on patent application preparation, prosecution, post-grant proceedings, opinion work (clearance, freedom-to-operate, and validity analysis), and client counseling.
